*This Week's Sky at a Glance*

*Some night sky sights for April 5 =96 13***



The bright star *Sirius *appears in the southwest after dark.  Above Sirius
(the Dog Star), is bright *Procyon*, the Little Dog Star. Together with
orange *Betelgeuse *in Orion's shoulder they form the equilateral *Winter
Triangle*.



Look for *Arcturus*, the =91Spring Star=92, shining brightly low in the
east-northeast in twilight and higher in the east after dark.



As spring advances, wintry *Orion *tilts farther over as it declines in the
west-southwest after dark. Orion's Belt in its middle is now almost
horizontal. Orion is brightly framed on its right by Jupiter and on its
left by Sirius.



The bright =91Summer Star=92 *Vega *is climbing in the northeast, beginning=
 a
long evening apparition that will continue for the rest of the year. Vega
actually rises around 9:10 pm; perhaps =91climbing=92 in the northeast at 1=
1
p.m.



On Wednesday, April 10, the *Moon *will go into its New Phase meaning we
will not see it at all during the night. Look for higher high tides and
lower low tides. Consider tidal bore arrival checks.


On Saturday, April 6, the *Sun *rose at 6:48 a.m. and will set at 7:54 p.m.
giving 13 hours 05 minutes of daylight hours.  On Saturday, April 13, the
sun will rise at 6:35a.m. and set at 8:03 p.m. to give 13 hours 27 minutes
of daylight hours (These values are for Moncton, New Brunswick).


 *This Week's Planet Roundup*


*Mercury *(magnitude 0) is having a poor apparition very low in the dawn.
Look for it just above the east horizon about 30 minutes before sunrise.

*Venus *and *Mars *remain hidden in the glare of the Sun.

*Jupiter *(magnitude =962.1) comes into view high in the west after sunset
and descends through the evening. Lower left of Jupiter is fainter orange *
Aldebaran*.

*Saturn *(magnitude +0.2) now rises in the east-southeast around the end of
twilight. Look for it well to the lower left of Spica, and farther to the
lower right of brighter *Arcturus*. Saturn shines highest in the south
around 3 a.m.
