Hi Helene and All
I suspect the problem with lead is more anglers than hunters.
Non lead sinkers are readily available but few anglers use them
just why I'm not sure. It must be 20 years ago that duck hunters changed
to non lead shot.=A0 I remember doing the video for the CBC.
Time to lean on the anglers.
Paul

There will be a presentation on Lead Poisoning in Bald eagles at 7:30 pm on=
March 28 at the regular monthly meeting of the Nova Scotia Bird Society at=
the Natural History Museum In Halifax. Presenter is Helene Van Doninck DVM=
of the Cobequid Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre. All are welcome.=A0

Presentation Summary:
Poisoning from spent lead ammunition has been documented in many species wo=
rldwide and is an issue that occurs repeatedly in Nova Scotia in the bald e=
agle (Haliaeetus leucocephalus). This presentation will discuss the science=
behind lead poisoning , concerns about the entry of lead into the human fo=
od chain through lead harvested game, and the solution to this solvable pro=
blem: the use of non-lead ammunition. The key to decreasing the incidence o=
f lead poisoning is hunter outreach. Education efforts in Nova Scotia have =
resulted in positive and groundbreaking initiatives.
