 Hi all
Charlie Kendell and I drove from Stellarton to Sheet Harbour yesterday, Feb. 13, through the Liscomb Game Sanctuary. We then birded the coastline from Watt Section to Harrigan Cove. I think waterfowl and waterbirds in general were in somewhat normal numbers for Feb.

The drive through the Liscomb was a little quiet and we were not intending to make many stops. There was a small group of Snow Buntings(12) in Nancy's Cellar area south of Lorne and a couple of flocks of Redpolls.

Our only Red-necked Grebes were 2 seen from the St. Andrew's Loop. Horned Grebes were more common with 27 from 6 locations. The 30 Loons were all Common Loons.

Six Great Cormorants were noted with no obvious white patches on flanks of any.

We had 12 species of waterfowl. Top 5 in numbers were Long-tailed Duck-90, Red-breasted Merganser-44, Black Duck-40, Harlequin -33 (22 males), and Common Eider -27. All Harlequin were observed from Sober I.

"Old Whitey", our unusual plumaged Purple Sandpiper seen over a 10+ years period, was not present with the 9 regular plumaged purples on Sober I. but the tide was very high while we were there. It would be nice to know if this bird made it back to this winter locale for another year.

A little group of Iceland Gulls were feeding on Sober I. Often it is hard to find 1-2 along this shore.
The most common alcid was Dovekie with 25 from 4 locations. Port Dufferin(12) and Sober I.(9) were the best spots to see thse birds. Black Guillemot numbers were much lower than one would expect this time of year with only 8 from 4 locations.

Passerines were not abundant at all. There were 3 Common Grackles at Port Dufferin, likely over-wintering birds and not a sign of spring!

Below is the E-bird submission for Sober I. Other locale results were posted to E-bird as well.
