Hi Peter and all,

I kept 15 years of weather data at my former home in Doctor=92s Brook,
Antigonish Co. from 1998-2012. The lowest mean daily maximum temperature
over one week periods was the 4th (last) week of January at -1.93=B0 C. =
The
lowest mean daily maximum temperature was 27 January at -2.88=B0C. The =
lowest
mean daily minimum temperature over one week periods was also in the 4th
(last) week of January at -8.79=B0C and the lowest mean daily minimum
temperature was 26 January at -9.99=B0C.=20

The figures averaged over one-week periods are probably more accurate =
since
they consist of about 100 data points per weekly period compared to the =
mean
daily temperature that have 15 or fewer data points. These numbers =
appear
consistent with Peter=92s findings for the Halifax airport.

John

Hi, all-

In deciding when we are really in "the depths of winter", I have been in =
the
habit of using a rather old set of data for Shearwater airport. This =
year, I
decided to use more current data for Halifax International, thinking =
that it
would be more representative. So, today I got the long-term average =
daily
max and min temps for YHZ, and calculated the daily average =
temperatures.

It turns out that the coldest days of the winter (averaging -6.45 deg.) =
for
YHZ are from January 27 through February 2, and that starting February =
3,
the temperatures begin to rise again. So I'm happy to report that =
starting
yesterday, the depths of winter (at least at Halifax International =
Airport)
are over and the long-term average of temperatures is again trending =
upward.
