Friday, January 4, 2012 Visited Lois Codling's yard this afternoon. It was one amazing place with so many bird species including two pine warblers (one bright), 1 bright Baltimore oriole, 1 yellow breasted chat, evening grosbeaks, redpolls, siskins, and 1 raven. Spotted a Hoary redpoll amid Common redpolls. Its stubby beak and frosty plumage were what helped me ID it. It was slightly bigger than its cousins. Did not see the red bellied woodpecker, nuthatches, or cardinal. Many thanks to Lois and Don Codling. Three 'Eurasian' wigeons by the Horseshoe park (at the tip of the Northwest Arm look like hybrids with black ducks? Cheers Liz
