An Oriole arrived yesterday in the cold, and is still here today. It has
discovered the two small feeding cages where we have been putting food
for the 2 Pine Warblers (IDed by Clarence Stevens Jr.). Tonight Don set
up the large feeding cage which we used last winter for the 4 Orioles.
Hopefully this will mean less competition for the mealworms,
peanut-butter suet, grape jelly and hulled sunflower seed.

Yesterday brought the first numbers of Comm. Redpolls to our feeders.
Hard to count as they come with Goldfinch and Pine Siskins, but we got
19 Redpolls yesterday, and about 40 today.

Had 7 Eve. Grosbeaks today, and a flock of about 20 B. Waxwings flew
over. Saw a male and female N. Cardinal tonight feeding under the
Forsythia bushes. A female Red-winged Blackbird has been here hiding in
the Multiflora Rose tangle for some time now. And the male Red-bellied
Woodpecker continues to be seen more erratically now, perhaps because
there are so many hawks about. Today a Merlin chased a group of
Mourning Doves, but there are also 3 Sharp-shinned Hawks around.
