Hello folks=2C
=20
My brother Larry and I got out on a scouting trip for the Kingston Xmas Bir=
d Count today (Dec. 9)=2C and were equally delighted to see that the redpol=
ls have reached the South Mountain and central Valley area. At least three=
flocks were seen=2C ranging from 20 to 125 or more birds=2C all Common as =
far as we could tell=2C mainly in the Torbrook area. (One flock was along =
the road on the mountain back toward Cloud Lake.) They were also feeding m=
ainly on white birch seeds.
=20
Perhaps even better were two pairs of White-winged Crossbills seen and hear=
d near the Annapolis River in Meadowvale=2C one at the Old Mill Trail=2C an=
d the other pair (which Larry was able to photograph) a little farther east=
. Let's hope that both species are soon in all our zones.
=20
We also had a few flocks of Evening Grosbeaks=2C including at my feeders in=
Tremont=2C ant at others in Torbrook=2C but these have been here all along=
=2C and so were not unexpected. Ron Pittaway's predictions of a good finch=
winter in the south are holding up well. Now we need someone to find some=
Pine Grosbeaks and Red Crossbills here!=20

Cheers=2C

This morning I was delighted to watch a flock of at least 300 common redpol=
ls in the white birch trees along the French Basin Trail in Annapolis Royal=
. An American coot was also feeding with the ducks in the pond.
