Hi All,
On Wednesday 21 Nov 2012 I walked around the Miner's Marsh in
Kentville. When I arrived at about 4:10 p.m. I walked over the iron
bridge and noticed something flying from behind me over my right
shoulder, as I brought my binoculars up to follow it I realized that
it was a bat. The bat circled twice over the western pond and then
flew off to the east. My sense was that it was larger and lighter than
a little brown bat, but as I haven't seen bats for a while, and it was
solitary it is hard to be definite. It was a bat for certain but I
can't really be sure of the species.

There were not many birds at this time of the day but I was able to
have a very good close view of a chipping sparrow, (wing bars, reddish
cap, black eye stripe, grey rump).

I was intending to try to see the marsh wren, I have tried three other
times and only once did I get a glimpse of it. On Wednesday I went to
the area of the eastern pond on the south side where it has been seen
lately. I stood and waited, pished and chipped, I then heard a noise
from the river behind me. I followed the sound and after ten minutes I
was able to see clearly, although in lower light the wren as it
foraged in the spartina along the north bank of the river. I got two
very good looks without grass or reeds in the way!! When the bird did
fly back to the pond it flew into the middle of the pond and
immediately began its chipping again, as if teasing or scolding me for
my efforts!!
