The = ocean spray did not quite reach me. I didn't even notice the Purple = Sandpipers for the first twenty minutes, being purple birds well = camouflaged on purple kelp. There is no intelligent way to count these = guys as some are seen and some are not as they forage in front and = behind the seaside rocks. Nevertheless, they are the first of the year = out here for me. Also this morning at the corner of Ketch Harbour Road = and Sandy Cove Road were a pair of Gray Jays. White-winged Crossbills continue to hang about the area, some at = Duncan's Cove and some in our yard at Portuguese Cove. Snow Buntings are = also found at Duncan's Cove, mostly just chattering as they pass = overhead. I spotted an adult Bald Eagle sitting atop Jeffries Island the = other day and an immature flew over today.=20 In addition to the White-winged Crossbills our home continues to host = daily visits by the male Red-bellied Woodpecker. Tree Sparrows are here = in numbers now, perhaps a dozen around the house. We have five = Ring-necked Pheasants visiting daily, two male and three female. They = favour the ground level platform feeder and the seed scattered on the = bed rock. It is tedious to list all our yard birds but the three dozen = mixed Song Sparrows and White-throated Sparrows are noteworthy.
