It was sunny and calm this weekend there, and only 6 degr. C. max, but the sun and the lack of wind made it seem warmer.. The night sky last night was terrific, with no light pollution at our camp, and only a thin new moon. The stars sparkled, and Jupiter and its moons, and the Orion nebula, we're both good sights in my scope. Birding was rather thin, but the major feature was the huge number of Juncos, all around the coast, including on the beach and kelp. Other highlights were several small flocks of Snow Buntings and W-W crossbills, a few Evening Grosbeaks, a Cardinal, and a cooperative Red-bellied Woodpecker in Westport that I was able to photograph. Only raptors were a few Sharpies, Red-tails and 2 Bald Eagles. There was a large number of both Common Loons and Black Guillemots around the coast, both Cormorants but very few of the expected sea ducks. Richard Stern Sent from my iPad
