Dear All, Nov 17, 2012 On thursday Nov 15 while walking SE along a woods road in North Alton and approaching a NW facing slope a large falcon circled overhead 3-4 times; long pointed wings that at times formed a relatively smooth arc. It was relatively pale below. Unusual features were a slow well spaced call CAAkk (3 call-length periods of silence between calls), crow-like at first but shorter and then fading with no hint of urgency or alarm, an ability to use the light wind from the NE and glide in circles just by tilting wings and large size (larger than Herring gull I thought). It was well above the tree canopy which is ~110' high and called 5-8 times each time it circled. Size would suggest Gyrfalcon so my estimate of size may be wrong. Is the call and gliding ability consistent with Perigrine ? Yt, Dave Webster, Kentville
