My neighbour told me several weeks ago about an unfamiliar reddish bird which she had seen occasionally at her feeder. Today, while eating lunch in my backyard on a balmy November day, I was watching the Red-breasted Nuthatch and American Goldfinches at my feeders when I heard and then saw a male Red Crossbill over the back fence at her feeder. Within half an hour it had found mine as well. This is a species I don't often see, and never before in my central Halifax garden. Patricia L. Chalmers Halifax
