<a href=3D"http://groups.yahoo.com/gr Nov 2, 2011 Just wanted to thank Richard Stern for spotting the male Tufted Duck, which I have been looking out for whenever I visited Bissett Lake last week. With my work out of the way, I got over to Bissett Lake/ parking lot at 4 pm and took a while to find the Tufted Duck. I could see its nice long tuft which was flapping around, thanks to the wind., through the scope. It was amid both Scaup species, Ring Necked Ducks and four Ruddy ducks swimming together. The ducks were on the left side beyond the reeds. There are four American coots. Ducks move around -- up front or in the back of the lake. That is the second year in Bissett Lake. The one last year stayed only a few days. Cheers, Liz ................... 2 November, 2012 6:47:43 PM ADT Tufted Duck, a few more details We saw the 110 Lesser Scaup from the main parking area at Bissett Lake, using Richard's 'scope. However, they were way down at the far end below the Astral Drive area. Using google earth we found a path opposite 38 Stratford Drive, which is off Astral Drive on both ends. The path leads down to some sort of pumping station (?) and is not posted. It leads directly to lake access, passing right past the fenced pumping station. The tuft on this duck cannot be missed. If you have the correct bird, you will not be asking yourself if you see a tuft. We IDed this as a drake but the flanks were not as bright white as on the drake LESC. We only viewed the TUDU thru Richard's 'scope. I doubt you'd see it with binocs, even from Stratford Drive. Rick Whitman dendroica.caerulescens@gmail.com
