Hi all
The next presentation of the Pictou Co. Naturalist's club will take us =
on a trip to Newfoundland when Charlie Kendell, a long-time member of =
our club, and born in the Codroy Valley will share shots he took of =
Newfoundland Nature and Culture from a few months he spent there this =
summer. Join us at 6:30 p.m. Tues. Nov. 6 at the program room of the New =
Glasgow Library as we travel from the Codroy to Fogo, Bonavista, Cape =
St. Mary's and some points in between. From squabbling Puffins, young =
foggy Gannets, Giant Squid, and both rugged and gentile terrains, =
Charlie will tell us a bit of what he saw on his journey this summer.=20

Our Dec. 4 meeting will feature a presentation by Jason LeBlanc.Below is =
a brief preview.=20
Title: An Overview of Aquatic Invasive Species in Nova Scotia

=20

Invasive species are thought to be the most serious threat to global =
biodiversity next to habitat loss. Nova Scotia has a long history of =
invasive species and well documented impacts in both aquatic and =
terrestrial habitats. This talk will focus on freshwater and marine =
invaders, discuss their impacts and options for managing them. Local =
examples of aquatic invasive species include Smallmouth Bass, Chain =
Pickerel, European Green Crab and Oyster Thief.=20

=20

Jason LeBlanc is a fisheries biologist with the Nova Scotia Department =
of Fisheries and Aquaculture. He studied fish ecology and biogeography =
at St. FX and works on resource management and invasive species issues =
provincially and nationally.=20

cheers
