The Silver Maple (Acer = saccharinum) seems to be one Southern tree species that has recently = made the jump into our province. It's found naturally in seasonally = flooded river valleys of parts of N.B and Maine, which are the = northernmost and easternmost tip of its distribution. A few years ago I reported (on NatureNS) a healthy and growing = population of this species along Kings County's Cornwallis River. The = oldest trees here are roughly all of the same age, suggesting that a = local landowner had planted them along the river some decades ago to try = to stabilize its eroding banks...
