--=====================_2727640==.ALT Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii"; format=flowed I spent some time at Bisset Lake this afternoon. The sky had become 100% overcast by the time I got there, so the lighting was somewhat poor. A scope would have helped, but even without one it was still worthwhile. Canada Geese 300+ American Wigeon 1 drake Black Ducks 60+ (including some likely Mallard x Black Duck crosses) Mallard 100+ (drakes 60+, hens 40+) Mallard x A. Wigeon? 1 drake Mallard x N. Pintail? 1 drake Northern Shoveller 1 drake in somewhat blotchy plumage (e.g. brown feathers among the white on the upper breast) Northern Pintail 2 hens Ring-necked Duck 2+ Scaup sp. 100+ Bufflehead 14+ I was struck by the number of Mallards here, a higher number and a greater proportion than I usually see. I was also interested in the hybrids. At one point the two drakes, x Pintail and x Wigeon, were side by side, affording an interesting comparison. It would have made an instructive photograph. I looked hard for Ruddy Ducks, but saw none, nor American Coots nor Pied-billed Grebes. Later, at Dorothea Drive, I found 2 immature Baltimore Orioles. Both had quite a bit of orange colouring, but one was significantly more orange than the other. My first orioles of the fall; they appeared to be doing well, so I refrained from telling them to move on to Susann Myers' feeders. Patricia L.
