Index of Subjects ---2114655128-120481637-1351342218=:56403 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Hi Randy and All You said "it surprises me that they're less common (around here, anyway) than Barreds." An interesting questions. I find Horned mostly along waterways - they seem very fond of things in the open. Ducks for example. Barred are all over and may have more ability to survive in wooded areas. Seems to me the combination of woods in NS everything from clear cut to mature stands favor the barred owls methods of hunting. By mature I don't mean only 300 year old hemlock but 75 year old white spruce and everything in between. Even street trees. Barred are easier to find. Just go on the back steps nights like this and listen - LOL Interesting birds Paul ________________________________ From: Randy Lauff <randy.lauff@gmail.com> To: naturens@chebucto.ns.ca Sent: Friday, October 26, 2012 3:39:10 PM Subject: Re: [NatureNS] Great Horned Owl, pellets, Snow Bunting Rick, Without actually having the pellet in my hand, I'd venture to say it has a duck mandible in it. Horned Owls have a very diverse diet...it surprises me that they're less common (around here, anyway) than Barreds.
