Corkum's Island / First South, Lunenburg, CA-NS
Oct 20, 2012 2:00 PM - 2:40 PM
Protocol: Traveling
6.2 kilometer(s)
9 species

Canada Goose 108
Mallard 12
Great Blue Heron 1
Great Black-backed Gull 1
American Crow 1
Black-capped Chickadee 2
Red-winged Blackbird 26
Common Grackle 2
Brown-headed Cowbird 11 Seen altogether at feeder with red-winged blackbirds and common grackles. There were likely more. Three females and eight males. One seen that might have been another cowbird species, but could not relocate it after it flew.

Further comments, a cowbird sp, that was all black and no matter what angle I looked at it from I could not distinguish any brown on the head. It flew and I could not relocate it. I counted 11 brown-headed cowbirds all together, but there could have been more. There also were likely more red-winged blackbirds. The location is at the cutoff from First South to the Corkum's Island Road, by where the Grimm Road starts. It is the house on the right if coming from First South and if Coming from the Corkum's Island Road, it will be the second house on the left.

I do not mind duck hunting, but it irks me to see a dead duck floating on the water. I suspect that someone shot at it from the road and did not bother to return to get it. I believe that it might have been a scaup. It was floating on the water by a curve on the Corkum's Island Road when heading to Lunenburg.
