'Found two spectacular bracket fungi on old Halifax oaks recenty -
chicken of the woods on the trunk, Sep 26th (now in the kitchen) and
Bondarzewia berkeleyi on the ground near an oak, July 4th, the latter
possibly a new record for NS - comment of John Crabtree, who also said
it aggressively rots the heartwood & the first indication about it
otherwise could be when the oak falls (I told the homeowner)
