The best grouping of birds was on the Lunenburg Back Harbour Trail. Lunenburg, Lunenburg, CA-NS Sep 24, 2012 4:35 PM - 5:25 PM Protocol: Traveling 2.0 kilometer(s) 14 species Downy Woodpecker 2 Northern Flicker 1 Red-eyed Vireo 2 Black-capped Chickadee 8 American Robin 12 Gray Catbird 1 European Starling 1 Cedar Waxwing 3 Yellow-rumped Warbler 17 Song Sparrow 9 Red-winged Blackbird 2 Purple Finch 2 American Goldfinch 4 House Sparrow 11 Garden Lots, Lunenburg, CA-NS Sep 24, 2012 3:40 PM - 4:30 PM Protocol: Traveling 4.6 kilometer(s) 14 species Canada Goose 24 Mallard 4 Green-winged Teal 2 Double-crested Cormorant 3 Great Blue Heron 1 Mourning Dove 3 Blue Jay 2 American Crow 1 Black-capped Chickadee 4 European Starling 100 Yellow-rumped Warbler 18 Song Sparrow 6 Purple Finch 1 American Goldfinch 1 Lilydale/Centre/Back Centre/Front Centre, Lunenburg, CA-NS Sep 24, 2012 3:05 PM - 3:30 PMProtocol: Traveling 7.4 kilometer(s) 12 species Wood Duck 7 Mallard 1 Double-crested Cormorant 2 Herring Gull 8 Mourning Dove 8 Blue Jay 9 American Robin 3 Song Sparrow 1 Swamp Sparrow 2 Red-winged Blackbird 2 Common Grackle 3 American Goldfinch 4 Not listed here was a sizeable group of common grackles at First South and there were also some red-winged blackbirds with them. I found out about a new eagle nest location in First South, so I'll have to keep an eye on it next year. The pair are still present around the nest. On Sept. 23 or thereabouts John Robart captured a picture of an osprey still on the nest at Mason's Beach. This was a bird that hatched out late and it is the juvenile, which has fledged, but was still present. James R.
