Possibly a longspur of some sort, lark bunting juv. or some other bunting juv. ) A juv lark bunting is a close match, but I was unable to get a photo due to distance. I have an expensive digital camera, for the time of purchase, that is, but not enough Megapixals to make the photo distinguishable with the lighting and distance, and the lighting was horrible even through the scope. Some robin sized bird with streaking and being brown with a grey cheek patch. It took off from the grass with a bunch of pipits and landed in the open on a grass tuft, but at a considerable distance. It was extremely flighty.
