Salt Marsh Trail
Cole Harbour, NS
Low Tide +3 hours

A walk from Bisset Road to the 3rd bridge on the Salt Marsh Trail =
yesterday produced about 50 Great Blue Herons scattered throughout the =
marsh in groups of 4 to 15 =E2=80=93 3 of which were roosting in the =
trees on the north side of the channel between Glasgow Island and the =
trail just before the 1st bridge. On the north side of the trail =
between the 1st and 3rd bridges there were several small groups of 30 to =
40 Dowitchers (mostly short-billed), Least Sandpipers, Lesser and =
Greater Yellowlegs, etc., feeding voraciously in the tidal pools. =
Observed 6 Black-bellied Plovers and numerous Black Ducks. One Northern =
Harrier showed up and attacked the Dowitchers looking for lunch =
=E2=80=93 he was not successful on this occasion! I have added a few =
pictures of these birds to my online gallery at:
