Calligrapha (in the family Chrysomelidae) is a complicated and species- rich genus of leaf beetles (they are not lady beetles which are members of another family, the Coccinellidae). Thirteen species have been recorded in the Maritime Provinces. I have a key to the species found in the region as well as links to photographs of all of the species on the following page: http://www.chebucto.ns.ca/Environment/NHR/Calligrapha.html Note: it may or may not be possible to identify your specimen from a photo since one of the more important characters used in identifying the species is the coloration of the elytral epipleurae, which are typically not visible in a dorsal-view photograph of a specimen. Good luck with it!
