--Apple-Mail-32--593651744 Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Content-Type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII; delsp=yes; format=flowed I also was in Miner's Marsh for half-an-hour in late morning on Sept. 7/12: Miner's Marsh in Kentville in late morning: 2 lesser yellowlegs and 1 solitary sandpiper, 1 belted kingfisher, several red-winged blackbirds, quite a few cabbage white butterflies and clouded? sulphur butterflies, 2 skimmer dragonflies in tandem with the red- bodied male coupled with a camouflaged yellow-brown female. I startled one of those lesser yellowlegs at very close range (less than 5 metres), and its very loud and strident calls startled me (and my brand-new hearing aids!) and made me think of a greater yellowlegs -- but I viewed that bird in close range and it was clearly a lesser. Thus the diminutive lesser yellowlegs is capable of calls very similar to the greater, just compounding the identification problem with these similar species.
