Sept 12 at 6:30 p.m at the New Glasgow = Library. Helene Van Doninck, no stranger to our group, will be a guest = speaker with a presentation on Lead Poisoning in Wildlife. See short = summary below. Helene is currently fund-raising for a multispecies large = raptor aviary and I thought it might be nice to have a hat present so = that those moved might have an opportunity to help Helene with this = project. Why not take your cheque book if you want a charitable receipt = or some cash or coin to drop in the hat to help her in her goal. This is = only if you are moved to do this; the presentation is free. Helene does = some exciting and vital work to help our wildlife. You will learn lots = for her presentation.=20 Join Helene Van Doninck, wildlife veterinarian and founder of the = Cobequid Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre for a discussion on lead = poisoning in wildlife.Wildlife such as bald eagles are the unintentional = victims of lead when they ingest spent lead ammunition and fishing = tackle. Not only is this a problem for wildlife, but the fragmenting = behaviour of lead ammunition raises questions about food safety for = human ingestion of lead harvested meat. Luckily this is a problem with a = solution, as many alternatives to lead ammunition and fishing tackle = exist and are available. Come learn about the issue, the solution and = the hunter/angler outreach program to encourage transition to non-lead = alternatives.=20 In October, our presentations will return to Tues- Oct 2 when John = Crabtree will present "Edible and Poisonous Mushrooms of NS". John will = also host a filed trip the following Sunday Oct. 7. This will be a = limited attendance field trip (20 people) and please contact John to = register and for details. mushroom67@lycos.com=20 John also wanted me to pass on this notice.=20 Hello All, if you are interested the Nova Scotia mycological society will be = holding it's fifth annual Mushroom Foray at Ship Harbour in Nova Scotia = on the weekend of September 21,22 and 23rd.
