--Apple-Mail-24--708304844 Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Content-Type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII; delsp=yes; format=flowed I'm sending this to NatureNS and others in order to show the Web site in Texas that is doing so much to try to help the declining and at- risk chimney swifts in North America. Try to remember the URL and A SWIFT NIGHT OUT after a few days to check out all of the sites throughout eastern N. Am. where counts of roosting chimney swifts were carried out. And the figures for the past few years should also be accessible there for comparisons with this year. A SWIFT NIGHT OUT is for 3 Aug. dates ending today, and then for 3 more dates in Sept. Cheers from Jim in Wolfvlle. P.S. Ally Manthorne at Bird Studies Canada is coordinating the Maritime SwiftWatch program for N.B., P.E.I., & N.S., and there are lots of folks in Quebec, Ontario, and Manitoba who are also working toward stopping the ongoing steep declines seen in Canada during 40 years of Breeding Bird Surveys. ---------------------- AUG. 11, 2012 - Dusk at Wolfville's Robie Tufts Nature Centre for a count of roosting swifts for A SWIFT NIGHT OUT (see chimneyswifts.org on Internet). Totally overcast but not darkly so, warm, 23 C., calm, lots of hungry no-see-ums (biting midges)! Observations from 8:00 to 8:50 p.m. (Sunset time about 8:29). First swift entered chimney at 8:11. Entries began again at 8:25, and the last one entered at 8:45. But visibility then was very poor, and quite possibly a few entering swifts were missed or came later (or even earlier than 8 p.m.). Observers Jim Wolford plus five people from India. Total number of seen swifts was 15+. I was hoping to see a few migrating nighthawks this evening, both at Wolfville and earlier along the New Ross Road (hwy. 12) in early evening as we returned from Lunenburg, but no luck on that. Cheers from Jim in Wolfville. --Apple-Mail-24--708304844 Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable Content-Type: text/html; charset=US-ASCII <html><body style=3D"word-wrap: break-word; -webkit-nbsp-mode: space; = -webkit-line-break: after-white-space; "> <div>I'm sending this to NatureNS and others in order to show the Web = site in Texas that is doing so much to try to help the declining and = at-risk chimney swifts in North America.
