Index of Subjects --_000_D828AF18F9CABA4AADDA9D0F9808ED76BE0E0B0066bsc2008bsceoc_ Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable Hi Ken and all, Hughie and I started our Oxford swift watch last night at 8:29 as well, wit= h great conditions (winds calm, 21 degrees and no cloud cover). It wasn't u= ntil 8:48 that we saw a swift, which appeared seemingly out of nowhere and = entered the freestanding chimney without a sound. This seems to be the norm= for this roost site. Three more surprised us at 8:59 (also silent entries)= but we didn't see any more swifts by the time we left at 9:15. So, it's a = grand total of 4 swifts for this count. We also counted 3 nighthawks foragi= ng overhead for much of the evening. In Sussex, NB not a single swift entered the roost chimney that the birds h= ad been using earlier this year. We aren't yet sure why that is. In Hampton= , NB Richard Blacquiere counted 10 entries, down from his previous counts o= f 40-50 birds. Swifts are definitely on the move.
