Paul and all=0AJim Taylor ( formerly from Dartmouth, living in Trenton =0AO=
nt. and vacationing near Heather Beach)=A0hosted me in the Tidnish-Pugwash =
=0Aarea on Tues. July 31 for a day of butterflying. Indeed we saw Boneset a=
t some =0Apoint in the afternoon with a butterfly on it- an Atlantis =0AFri=
tillary. =0A=A0=0AIt was a somewhat slow day for butterflying, but accordin=
g =0Ato the Maritime Butterfly=A0atlas director, John Kylmko,=A0on =0Apar=
=A0with what others are seeing in the middle of the summer.=0AWhen I left h=
ome in Plymouth,=A0it was nice and calm =0Aand all the little coves on the =
drive up had glass-like water of high tides. =0AWhen I opened the=A0car doo=
r at Jim's I could not believe how windy it was. =0AJim said it had just co=
me up and it stayed windy till I arrived home after 9 =0Alast night when it=
was perfectly calm again. =0A=A0=0AWe started by visiting a very tiny cran=
berry plot in the =0Acorner of a farmer's field ( Northport square). There =
were about 8 rather fresh Northern Crescents which I had not seen for a goo=
d number of =0Aweeks plus some Silver-bordered (SB)=A0Fritillaries. =0AThe=
=A0crescents were new for the Northport square. =0A=A0=0AWe then decided we=
would work our way to the West Linden =0ARd. ( Northport square)=A0where J=
im had the Salt Marsh =0ACoppers ( formerly Maritime Copper) and when we re=
ached his spot along =0Athe Shinimicas R. there were good numbers (40-50) o=
n tansy along the road =0Ashoulder. We did not have to go into the marsh at=
all. Jim said the numbers were =0Adown considerably from when he first saw=
them when there were 100's. It was =0Apretty impressive to me with several=
flower heads=A0 having 3 or more on =0Athem. I thanked Jim for showing me =
this new species for me. Now can I find some =0Amore in that missing gap on=
the maps=A0between Caribou and Cape =0ABreton!=0A=A0=0ABoth of us felt we =
would then work the Amherst Shore =0Asquare thinking the marsh area along t=
he stream through the provincial park was =0Asimilar to the Shinimicas. Aft=
er an hour we concluded it was not. Very little =0Abutterfly life.=A0 For t=
he square we added SB Fritillary, Cabbage White, Clouded Sulphur and Common=
Wood Nymph=0A=A0=0AWe then moved on to the Tidnish square focusing on the =
=0Aarea around a large meadow-bog or drained dam along the Joe Bert Rd. The=
wind =0Awas pretty strong here and we did not add much. =A0We later found =
a woods =0Aroad to walk in ~ 1.5 km with good numbers of SB Frit and Atlant=
is Frit- maybe =0Aan, Aphrodite??. =0AWe added a Painted=A0Lady on the way =
=0Aback home at 4. So for=A0Tidnish square we added Cab. White, Clouded =0A=
Sulphur, Common Wood Nymph, Silver-bordered Fritillary-15, Atlantis Fritill=
ary-6 =0Aand Painted Lady. =0A=A0=0AIt was a fun day and great to spend it =
with Jim who has =0Afound an exciting new hobby late in his many decades ob=
serving nature. His =0Aexcitement is very contagious=0A=A0=0AWe did observe=
 a few interesting birds=A0such as=A0a =0Aflying Common Nighthawk while obs=
erving the Coppers (45 =0A54.102=A0 63 52.693), 2 Eastern Kingbirds near Am=
herst =0AShore, and maybe 8 or so American Kestrel along power lines on =0A=
our route.=A0 There were a few Bonaparte's Gulls at Bayhead =0Acoming and g=
oing through Colchester Co. =0Acheers=0AKen=0A=A0=0A=A0=0A=A0----- Original=
