Subject: Great Shearwaters(300++)

Laura and I sat on our looking-off place about halfway between Chebucto =
Head Light and Chebucto Head and watched a feeding frenzy off shore. =
Using the tried and true extended thumb technique I counted 300++ Great =
Shearwaters between the red harbour buoy directly to the east and the =
green harbour buoy off Duncan Reef. The frenzy to the southwest of =
Duncan Reef was not visible on our walk so there could be many more =
shearwaters. Northern Gannets were streaming past at 5-10 per minute, =
diving and floating as they went. A lot of whales were present showing =
communal feeding behaviour which is characteristic of pilot whales, but =
don't quote me. ID'ing whales from plumes and dorsals only is beyond my =
ability. There were about 100-150 seals in and around Duncan Reef.

Hans
