I suppose I can say "lepping", by analogy with "birding".

Linda and I spent some time looking for butterflies at a few sites in
the Valley today. The weather wasn't great, but we did get some sightings.

In Kentville Ravine, we saw many Mustard Whites flying with Cabbage
Whites. It was a great opportunity to compare their behaviour and flying
styles. The MUWH are definitely weaker and lower flyers, calmer in a
way. We also got a good photo of a sluggish Clouded Sulphur and our
first fritillary of the year, a very beat-up Great Spangled Fritillary.

We visited the beautiful Harriet Irving Botanical Gardens at Acadia, and
saw very few butterflies. What we saw were mostly in the open area
around the ornamental fountain, and they included one or two ladies (of
indeterminate nationality) plus a good look, with photos, of a Question
Mark.

Finally, we drove through Grand Pre and out to the Boot Island look-off,
trying to score some Black Swallowtails. We saw one or two flying over
the crops on the Grand Pre road, but none out at the end. Cabbage
Butterflies were profuse, apparently interested in the potatoes growing
in the fields.

Photos and details have been logged at ebutterfly.ca.
