I walked = the Eastern end of Hirtle=E2=80=99s and the South end of Kingsburg beach = and saw nothing at these locations. Everything I found was on the inside = (west side) of Hell point. As near as I can judge using Google Earth, it = covered about 300m along the cobble beach and ledges, just where the = road ends and the path to the point starts. Interesting that we = walked up and down the adjacent beach (Hirtle's) on our way to Gaff = Point as part of a Nature Conservancy work party to carry out some = remediation work on the loop trail which was very wet (despite the = current dry spell), and saw nothing of this sort of phenomenon. Must = have been very localized...? In any case, thanks for sharing! I=E2=80=99m not sure if this is a common/natural = occurrence in this area or if it has been previously reported. A quick search of the Internet does bring up some info indicating that = a parasite has caused similar die-offs on the west coast. The photos can be seen at this link http://www.flickr.com/photos/33706397@N03/sets/72157630586799158/ The remains were spread across several hundred meters of coast and = appeared to have washed up over several tide cycles.
