Sky nearly totally clear, 21 C., cool, breezy from the south?, wide crescent Moon in the southwest. At 9:07 1 chimney swift dropped into the chimney, and one more was flying. At 9:18, 15 swifts were flying near the chimney. Then further entries to the chimney happened at 9:19 (1), 9:20 (3), 9:24 (8), 9:25 (1), 9:27 (5), then no more to 9:40, when I departed. A total of 19 chimney swifts entered the chimney for the night. Observer Jim Wolford. ------------------------- This evening Claire Diggins checked out the chimney of Middleton Regional High School and counted 160 chimney swifts as they dove in for the night. Here are her details as sent via e-mail: I checked the chimney on Tuesday, June 26th. Middleton Reg. High School. I arrived at 8:30 p.m. First swift flew in at 9:04. I counted 160 swifts in all. Last went in at 9:29. I left at 9:33. Temp 18*C. Wind: moderate.
