--Apple-Mail-21--574424176 Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Content-Type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII; delsp=yes; format=flowed JUNE 24, 2012 - Yesterday I had an enlightening conversation with Sandra & Randall Bishop about a "new" bald eagle nest in New Minas whose location I didn't know. [Randall is a veterinarian who lives in Greenwich and monitors the eagle nest north of Noggins Farm Market. He puts up a nest-camera when it looks like those eagles might have eggs or youngsters and then remotely maintains that camera and its accessibility to the public, via the Noggins Corner Farm or the Cornwallis Veterinarians Web sites.] Anyhow, the "new" nest in New Minas is not far from the old location of the Motor Vehical Branch (now in west Kentville). In New Minas, just east from the junction of Middle Dyke Road and Commercial St./ Hwy. 1, bear left off Commercial St. at Crescent Drive, go east very briefly to Nova Drive (look for Party Central where Bonnyman Motors used to be), turn left (north) for one block to the T-junction at Nova Welding, then turn right (east), and look behind Nova Welding off the end of the pavement (cul-de-sac) in the planted pines, quite close to the industrial building. The nest is not very large and currently holds two very large and feathered-out fledglings, which look like they could try their maiden flights pretty soon. Now I am wondering about the history of this nest, i.e. how long has it been there and occupied by bald eagles? JUNE 25, 2012 - Today at noon I arranged for James Churchill to show me the bald eagle nest in the Kentville Ravine. We walked from the upper picnic ground toward the south, and, as we passed the experimental orchards, we heard a hootenanny of calls from barred owls; then James told me they were machine-made to keep birds away from the fruit of the trees. We descended along the wide trail for OHV vehicles (research station's) perhaps not quite halfway down to the stream, and James pointed me to view the nest, which now seemed empty; but two big fledglings were there as of June 19, said Harold Forsyth. The nest- tree (tall pine) and nest are difficult to see unless you have very good directions and James' earlier photograph back in May? We heard a singing eastern wood pewee while viewing the eagle nest. On my drive back to Wolfville, I rechecked the bald eagle nest in Eagle Landing new subdivision north of Kentville and just off Middle Dyke Road. The eagle nest is in a pine tree at the western boundary of the subdivision, behind houses along Talon Drive's northern part. The nest still holds two large nestlings/fledglings. Cheers from Jim in Wolfville. --Apple-Mail-21--574424176 Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable Content-Type: text/html; charset=US-ASCII
<body style=3D"word-wrap: break-word; -webkit-nbsp-mode: space; = -webkit-line-break: after-white-space; "> <div style=3D"margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; = margin-left: 0px; "><font face=3D"Helvetica" size=3D"3" style=3D"font: = 12.0px Helvetica">JUNE 24, 2012 - Yesterday I had an enlightening = conversation with Sandra & Randall Bishop about a "new" bald = eagle nest in New Minas whose location I didn't know. =
<div style=3D"margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; = margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; font: normal normal normal = 12px/normal Helvetica; min-height: 14px; ">

<div = style=3D"margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; = margin-left: 0px; "><font face=3D"Helvetica" size=3D"3" style=3D"font: = 12.0px Helvetica">[Randall is a veterinarian who lives in Greenwich and = monitors the eagle nest north of Noggins Farm Market.
