Coincidentally, today I came across an article on cougars in eastern Canada in one of the 2011 issues of the Canadian Field-Naturalist. It is by CWS biologists, and bases its results on concrete evidence, namely scat, tracks, and adequate photographs. There are definite record of cougars, "of unknown origin" from NB, but not yet from NS. Interestingly, one of the sources of several "cougar" records turns out to be Fishers, according to photographs. Eric L. Mills 286 Kingsburg Road RR#1, Rose Bay, NS B0J 2X0 Canada e.mills@dal.ca
