This morning at East Point, N. Grand Pre, at high tide, there were 2
Semipalmated Plovers & 8 Semipalmated Sandpipers. The light must have
been good. I have photos of the SESAs that really show the breeding
plumage. The birds are much prettier than the somewhat drab colours
that we see later in summer. The dark tones are truly dark & there are
beautiful chestnut accents. These birds almost remind me of the
beautiful juvenile White-rumped Sandpipers that I caught last summer.
On the adult SESAs I assume these colours are bleached & worn off
later.
