Hi all, Just passing along an e-mail received from my union today regarding feedback on our parks. It is aimed at members, but the meetings are open to the public. Gary Murray Beaverbank NS ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Speak up for your Provincial Parks Attend a session near you or write to: parkopinions@gov.ns.ca [mailto:parkopinions@gov.ns.ca] ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Dear NSGEU member, The provincial government is holding public meetings in 15 locations to discuss what provincial parks mean to citizens as part of their review of the NS parks system. The government will be using this information to decide a strategy for our parks that will last until 2020. We are concerned that unless they hear from you, government may consider shortening park seasons, closing parks, or privatizing more of the services. Any one of these possibilities would have a negative impact on your experience with your provincial parks. NSGEU members work, quite a few of them seasonally, maintaining and staffing the parks throughout the province. NSGEU members are the public face of many of our parks. They often greet visitors at the gatehouse, make sure the parks are clean and that facilities are maintained. We are encouraging all NSGEU members to please attend these meetings listed below and share your opinions about how important all of our parks are to our families and to future generations. Bring any ideas you have to improve your daytime or camping experience at the park. Ideas could include: Would you like to see longer park seasons? Water and sewer hookups and access to power at more campsites? How about a seasonal pass option? Would you like staff at the parks be able to reserve a site for you when you show up at the park gate? Right now, many campgrounds cannot reserve a spot for you. You must do it online yourself. Would you like the reservation staff to be located in Nova Scotia? Right now, the company contracted to provide the service, CAMIS, operates out of Ontario. Please encourage your family and friends to attend the meetings as well to tell the government how they value their provincial parks. If you cannot attend one of the meetings below, you can send your opinions to parkopinions@gov.ns.ca [mailto:parkopinions@gov.ns.ca]. Don't forget to "cc" us at inquiry@nsgeu.ca [mailto:inquiry@nsgeu.ca].
