This morning, over the sounds of a nearby bagpipe and enthusiastic throngs attending the Bluenose Marathon, I heard the high thin song of a Bay-breasted Warbler, singing from one of the big maples on the grounds of St. George's Church, aka "The Round Church", in north end Halifax. It took me quite a while to find the bird, a lovely male; the trees are really leafing out now. It's the first one I've seen in several years, and hardly a species I would expect in downtown Halifax! When I got home, there was a Red-eyed Vireo singing from one of the big elms which line my street in central Halifax. It's lovely to see and hear these birds as they return ... Patricia L.
