I was lucky right away with the heron, for it flew into the middle of the cattail marsh and stayed there for my whole walk. But the sora(s) did not call at all. When I left, the heron was perched in a lone very small tree on an island in mid- marsh. Also, perched on the top of a cattail fruiting stalk, was an eastern kingbird, right next to another stalk with a male red-winged blackbird. Flowers seen included common hawthorn, choke cherry, shadbush or serviceberry, cuckoo-flower, common dandelion, garden forget-me-nots (both blue and white forms), yellow rocket, etc.?
