Index of Subjects
Index of Subjects In New Brunswick and probably Nova Scotia (Jeff Ogden can probably confirm or refute this), roughly 25% of the Black Legged Ticks carry Lyme Disease and/or Anaplasmosis. If you are bitten you should have the tick tested for the bacteria and a lot of doctors recommend a prophylactic dose of antibiotics (Although maritime doctors are stll not overly familiar with this disease). If the tick comes back positive a course of action can then be pursued. As with most diseases the quicker you are treated the fewer problems you will have down the line. To my knowledge no Dog Ticks in the maritimes have tested positive for any pathogens so it is safe (but not pleasant) to get bitten by one of these..Jim Jim Edsall Dartmouth, N.S. check out my personal website at http://www3.ns.sympatico.ca/jim.edsall/
