Index of Subjects Andrea, On a few fronts, we have made progress. - Nesting spotted sandpipers: (not yet observed this year) In the previous two years EC officers have inspected the area to ensure nesting site not disturbed. - Meeting with Colin MacLean of Waterfront development Corp.: Face to face meetings, emails , and third party political inquiries have resulted in WDCL changing their plan, however the change calls for a 'man made' water feature to replace the existing ecosystem! Part of my work in the group has been to explore exactly this failure in other municipalities throughout North America. - Provincial Legislature: Very recent questions (Wed. May 9) on the public record from Kelly Regan (MLA for Bedford) to the Provincial Minister of the environment. Too bad about the response from an environment minister! See the Hansard of 9 May 2012, page 1886 http://nslegislature.ca/pdfs/proceedings/hansard/61-4/h28may09.pdf In short we have seen some wedges opening up this issue and are somewhat encouraged. I'll go so far as to say that it is still possible that the reef will be saved. Nothing is for sure. Bear in mind there is no innate *need* to bury the reef - it's probably just ignorance. I understand that they have already begun the infilling project. What is the likelihood that they will halt it at this point? I watch NatureNS all the time. It's true my initial post this time around was not a discussion, but it was information, and that's OK. Our little group,"Save Bedford Reef", consisted of three people with young families. Progress is slow - persistence is high. We are exploring many levels of bureaucracy and politics with our inquiries about this infilling project. It has been an education. Since so much time had elapsed since my posting of our Youtube video last year, I wanted to simply advise that "somebody is doing something" about a well known and reviled environmental issue. In this case, that "something" was a table and display at the seaside market downtown Halifax last Saturday. If major environmental destruction is happening in Nova Scotia, I want to know about it, and I want other nature lovers to know about it. This list is the best place to find the people that really care. One thing NatureNS is not, is the place for a rant, so I'll stop here. However, I must say the initial reply I saw on the group left me reeling. Thankyou very much to those of you who wrote in support, and who posted support here. I appreciate it. 'nuff said. (Too much said?)
