I've had some "right place at the right time" photo experiences over the past 2 days. Yesterday on the dyke S of Long Island Road west, N Grand Pre, I photographed a Great Blue Heron and its reflection and a rather tame, singing Savannah Sparrow. There was also a female Surf Scoter that was well into a creek, rather out of place. Today I walked the canal from Route 12 towards Little River Lake. I met a Loon that was quite calm and a mother Black Duck and her 11 ducklings. I also caught a Killdeer in a sea of green & when I got home I caught a Downy Woodpecker stealing syrup from our hummingbird feeder (thru the window). I saw this guy a day or so ago also, doing this. http://rickwhitman.smugmug.com/Nature/Birds-April-June-2012/22243788_LGxpGV#!i=1825164240&k=RLFcCWz My first Least Flycatcher & Spotted Sandpiper were also present along the canal. The parking area for this walk is exactly where the South Alton & Forest Home boundary signs are located on Route 12. Other surprisingly nice walks right in that area are the two lengthy sections of Gaspereau Lake dyke on the W side of Rte 12, both of which have several parking choices off the road. Rick Whitman
