Wow-I never would have thought that the NSBS Facebook group would be so con=
troversial but any controversy is good controversy. =A0We just had 4 more m=
embers join in the last hour pushing us over the 220 number. =A0I checked o=
ut the posts on that group and there was no posting of the spring migration=
count information. =A0The only information given was that Chris Pepper is =
the provincial coordinator and contact him for more information if you were=
interested-the same as on the Web site, in the emails from the president, =
and in the magazine.=A0=0A=0AThe Facebook group is different than this one.=
=A0Folks there are not as concerned with listing, twitching or counts but =
really enjoy chatting about birds and looking at the pictures that people h=
ave taken. =A0More relaxed and easier for non-expert birders to ask questio=
ns and to have conversations. =A0There is no pressure to report any species=
but all are free to post whatever they want on birds.=0A=0AIt is most defi=
nitely not a Metro Halifax group. =A0I do believe we have a strong presence=
especially from the South Shore/Yarmouth area, =A0Cape Breton, all over NS=
and elsewhere. =A0 There are even fisherman who are posting pictures of bi=
rds they see while out at sea. =A0We have people join who have never birded=
before but saw the pictures posted in their friends status updates or news=
feeds.=0A=0AIt is not intended to replace or to compete with this list ser=
ve.=0A=0ARight now the threads on the Facebook group are about Vogel, the C=
ommon Gallinule, whether s/he will have a mate and whether we will get to s=
ee little vogels. =A0Plus a couple members posted a picture of a white-thro=
ated sparrow, a red-breasted nuthatch, a crow on a webcam and a picture of =
a raven on a nest feeding a baby chick. =A0No one is really talking about t=
he Spring Migration Count.=0A=0A=A0It must be meeting a need because of the=
huge popularity and the active participation by members. So I believe that=
we are doing something right. =A0You are welcome to join or NOT to join.=
