Took advantage of the lovely weather this afternoon to take a walk =
around Belchers Marsh in the Glenbourne subdivision in Mainland Halifax.
The Leatherleaf was pretty much in full blossom as was the Sweet Gale at =
the marsh edge.  The Red Maple flowers are lovely close up. The =
Red-berried or Scarlet Elder was in very early bud, showing a distinct =
reddish tinge.  Also noted a small patch of Inkberry which had =
previously escaped my notice.
Recently arrived birds included Red-winged Blackbird, Common Grackle, =
Northern Flicker and Belted Kingfisher. Hope to see Tree Swallows and =
Great Blue Heron on my next trip.
Next time you are in the area, do visit the marsh.  Our Trails Group has =
prepared a brochure with a map of the trails and a brief description of =
the cultural and natural history.
