After a few nights of dribs and drabs, my nocturnal recordings showed some
movement of White-throated Sparrows and Savannah Sparrows last night over
Antigonish County. There were at least 30 White-throat and 10 Savannah night
flight calls in the sample taken over my home in a 9 hour period. There were
a few other sparrows, probably Swamp Sparrows, that have yet to be
positively identified. No warblers were evident. I managed to find one
Hermit Thrush among all the Spring Peeper calls. The night flight call of a
Hermit Thrush is at about the same sound frequency as a Spring Peeper. My
time in the field this morning confirmed a general arrival of White-throated
Sparrows and I had my first daytime Hermit Thrush for the spring.

One perky Song Sparrow was singing at 1:30 am, 3:30 am, and from 5:00 am
onwards.

John

Doctor's Brook, Antigonish Co.
