Mar. = 13. Earlier in the day I saw a Yellow-bellied Sapsucker in the River = John area =20 On Sat., I took a couple of hikes in the morning. It Irish Mtn., I heard = a Winter Wren singing. Also present were YB Sapsucker and Flicker. I had = Eastern Phoebes at both bridges at Willard Fraser Rd and a third by Doug = Frasers Barn all in MacLellans Brook. Also at Willard Fraser were more = Flickers and 2 singing Swamp Sparrows.=20 Rick Ferguson and I ran the Sunny Brae- Caledonia ( Guys) Owl survey = route Mar 14, but despite a nice night we only tallied a single Great = Horned Owl, a Woodcock and Peepers and Wood Frogs at most stops,. The = peepers were not a resounding chorus, but a few just starting to = vocalize.=20 On Sunday, Mar 15, I had a Tree Swallow in my yard in the morning and = there were a couple in the afternoon.. At Abercrombie Pt. an Osprey was standing on the nesting platform ( nest = blew down over -winter).=20 At the lake formed by the Middle River dyke, I spotted a distant = Red-throated Loon ( winter plumage). On the road from the Pictou Rotary = to Caribou ferry terminal, I had a couple Ruby-crowned Kinglets, a pair = of Northern Harrier and Swamp Sparrows.=20 At Waterside PP, I saw and heard a Savannah Sparrow and not far away, = another Tree Swallow. There was an A. Kestrel on the Panting property = near the Weirs Gut Bridge in Central Caribou.=20 In the afternoon, I saw a Pied-billed Grebe at Grants Lake near Elgin. = Also at Elgin a single Bloodroot was in bloom in an exposed bank near = the graveyard.
