Hi Robin,

This of course makes all the difference. I would suggest you look at the Nikon 7x35 Action or if you can squeeze a few more dollars out of your budget, the Nikon 7x35 EX Extreme ATB. I see the latter are currently on sale on Amazon.com for $114.85 and the former are $62.72.

They fit well into Ron's checklist of quality. They have BaK4 multicoated prisms, are waterproof, have an extremely wide field of view (487 at 1000), are rubber-armored, and will provide a good image. Unfortunately one drawback is that they don't fit Tom's excellent suggestion of close focus. They only focus to 16.4 feet. However I wouldn't expect that you would be able to get everything you need at the low price you're willing to pay. So a good image, durable, easy to use for beginners, a low price but not very good at close focus. They are also the top rated economy model in the Cornell review. Don't expect them to last forever but they should last you a reasonable length of time if they don't get used as hammers. :)

If you think they fit your needs then I wouldn't wait to order them. The availability of many pairs may be your only issue.

All the best,

Lance

Thanks for all the advice about binoculars...lots of information to consider!

I did forget to mention that our budget is $100 per pair so that might limit the options.

Thanks again
robin
