Its appearance, where you found it,and the blooming time leads = me to highly suspect Daphne (Daphne mezereum), an early blooming shrub = with an interesting history that relates back to early Acadian = settlement and their gardens in this part of N.S. I too have come = across it in walks this time of the year, especially in the woods behind = Noggin Corner Farm, Greenwich (usually a little later in April). Its = flowers and fruit are apparently is quite poisonous.
