The "Forks River Dam" is the local name for a dam on the E side of Black River Lake that prevents water from flowing into the West Branch Avon River. I was in S of the Forks River Dam today, on the northern edge of the massive clear cuts that extend all the way to Butler Road, and beyond. There was a pair of very vocal Rusty Blackbirds in 2 small swampy areas, sequentially. In '06, '07, & '08 I saw one pair each year in the same MBBA square 20LQ97 & adjacent 20LQ87. Other than the MBBA work, I've only seen this species 4 times in the past 20 years in Kings Co. The MBBA called it "rare in the Maritimes" & required a report form to be submitted. It doesn't look all that rare in the MBBA species map but it was certainly more common during the first atlas. http://www.mba-aom.ca/jsp/map.jsp?lang=en Rick Whitman
