MARCH 23, 2012 - Pat Chalmers found ELM in bloom yesterday in
Halifax -- what species of elm?. So today I checked the young
American? elm that I watch every year at the edge of the Acadia Arena
parking lot; its flower buds are quite swollen but not open yet.
Very nearby are two planted silver maples and a red maple that I also
monitor every Spring: the red maple has quite swollen flower-buds,
but the female silver maples have open crimson flowers/catkins.

I still haven't seen coltsfoot (maybe later today?) in bloom, but
crocuses and snow-drops are popping up everywhere in Wolfville. And
of course the planted varieties of witch-hazel continue to bloom in
Wolfville's Clock Park.

Cheers from Jim in Wolfville.
