ALL: A warm hike around Back Cove, HP, produced no bird surprises. Despite electronic aids, I found no apparent migrants - just chickadees, robins, and Song Sparrows. The latter, if anything, were scarcer than they have been in winter - the number of singing males may have become exclusive. The weather set-up has been such that it may have have brought more early migrants to QC and ON than to here. Nice to see, but not new, were stands of Coltsfoot, and more surprising was a patch of Mayflower (Epigaea) in loosening bud. With numerous scantily dressed young folk sauntering on Metro sidewalks and soaking up the sun, why do I feel uneasy about the record weather? Cheers, Ian Ian McLaren
